Reid calls for more Hamilton grit

By BBC Sport
Sunday, 21st February 2010
Hamilton manager Billy Reid feels his side must gain the ability to win games in which they have under-performed.Reid's men lost 2-0 to Hearts to remain only a point above Scottish Premier League bottom club Falkirk.

"The one thing that's really annoying me at the moment is that when we play well we win games," said Reid.

"But we don't seem to have the ability when we're not playing well to go and nick things. Hearts have not played well today, they've won 2-0."

Hearts' opener came moments after their goalkeeper Marian Kello had denied Flavio Paixao the opener for the visitors.

"Flavio Paixao got put through one-on-one with the goalkeeper," said Reid.

"He did everything right, he smashed it low and hard. The goalie's pulled off a good save and Hearts went up the park and scored.

"There was nothing in the game, I thought the first goal was always going to win it.

"We came out, we tried to open up the game and we lost the second goal."

And the Accies boss added: "All-in-all, there was not a lot in the game but they've deserved to win. They've put the ball in the net twice and all credit to them.

"Goals change games and at the moment we're not putting the ball in the net."

David Templeton capitalised on an error by Brian Easton to net Hearts' second late in the match, with the full-back lobbing his own goalkeeper.

"It was a bit silly," Reid said.

"Brian Easton got caught on the wrong side, he's disappointed with the goal and it's over the goalkeeper's head. These things happen in football."

Reid was without recent signing Dougie Imrie and top goalscorer Mickael Antoine-Curier for the match in Edinburgh and believes getting these players back from injury will help Hamilton turn things around.

"Our two main goal threats, Dougie Imrie and our top goalscorer are not playing today," added Reid.

"When we get them into the fold, we'll certainly be stronger up front. To me, that's all that's lacking."
